The Exaltation of the Sun: Offerings for Aries Season & Everyday Magic
*March 20th - April 19th*
We dance within the second decan of Aries — a place where the Sun, though not ruler of the sign, finds his hidden sovereignty.
While Aries belongs to Mars, the Sun here is *exalted* — a throne not of ownership, but of radiant honor. This is a place of solar power unseen, veiled within the iron heart of the Ram.
Firmicus Reminds Us
Firmicus Maternus, ancient astrologer, speaks of exaltations like this:
"The former are called exaltations, or favorable places in the chart, because they make those who are born with this configuration fortunate and successful. When they are in their debility or fall — that is, in unfavorable places — they make men wretched, poor, of low birth, and constantly plagued by bad luck."
He tells us: "The Babylonians called the signs in which the planets are exalted their ‘houses.’ But in the doctrine we use, we maintain that all the planets are more favorable in their exaltations than in their own signs. The Sun is exalted in the nineteenth degree of Aries, but is in its fall in the nineteenth degree of Libra.”
As the Moon crossed the fixed star Antares — Watcher of the West, Mother of Spirits — I was reminded of our long toil under Martian bloodshed, violence and war in our sphere.
This Mars retrograde and the trials of recent months brought death, destruction, and despair — enemies of the mind, the spirit, and the living terrains around us. But the Heart of the Scorpion offers cleansing. A way to ascend from the entanglements of fear and decay. We leave behind the shadows of winter’s night.
As the Sun emerged from his underworld journey — on the day of Jupiter the Bountiful — I crafted an altar to Saint Expedite. A saint of quick deliverance. Of movement. Of renewed paths. Petitions were made for a new dawn. For the seeds of new solar light to root within the landscape of our sphere
Libations were offered to the Venusian spirits whose chthonic power is nourished by Antares. Offerings to the Sun — solar and Jovial talismans surrounded by fresh fruits of solar nature.
No spirit was called down to ensoul or manifest — this was not that kind of working.

This was a native offering. An honoring of the land and the natural turning of the solar cycle. A gesture of receiving the spirits present — and giving back. In the Words of Julia Carreras Tort In *The Land of the Goat*, Julia Carreras Tort writes:
"This could also explain why the traditional date of the *ajunt de bruxes* in the Pyrenees would often correspond
with particular moments of the year — such as those around the winter and summer solstices — as well as any time related to the cycle of harvest or other agrarian events.
In exchange for their part in the eternal keeping of the cycle of life and death, they were often appeased with offerings — to ensure the return, but also to avoid a harmful response."
And so, I rose — as my ancestors would — and honored the ever-turning cycle of life and death. The dance of the faces.
This artifact of everyday magic is linked to a spirit that has *exalted* me in my never-ending dance with fate — *Santo Expedito*.

La Exaltación del Sol: Ofrendas para la Temporada de Aries y Magia Cotidiana
*20 de marzo - 19 de abril*
Danzamos en el segundo decanato de Aries, un lugar donde el Sol, aunque no regente del signo, encuentra su soberanía oculta.
Si bien Aries pertenece a Marte, el Sol aquí está *exaltado*: un trono no de propiedad, sino de radiante honor. Este es un lugar de poder solar invisible, velado en el corazón de hierro del Carnero.
Firmicus nos recuerda
Firmicus Maternus, antiguo astrólogo, habla de exaltaciones como esta:
"Las primeras se llaman exaltaciones, o lugares favorables en la carta astral, porque hacen que quienes nacen con esta configuración sean afortunados y exitosos. Cuando se encuentran en su debilidad o caída, es decir, en lugares desfavorables, hacen a los hombres miserables, pobres, de baja cuna y constantemente acosados por la mala suerte".
Nos dice: «Los babilonios llamaban a los signos en los que los planetas estaban exaltados sus 'casas'. Pero en la doctrina que utilizamos, sostenemos que todos los planetas son más favorables en sus exaltaciones que en sus propios signos. El Sol está exaltado en el decimonoveno grado de Aries, pero está en su caída en el decimonoveno grado de Libra».
Al cruzar la Luna con la estrella fija Antares —Vigilante del Oeste, Madre de los Espíritus—, recordé nuestra larga lucha bajo el derramamiento de sangre, la violencia y la guerra marcianas en nuestra esfera.
Este Marte retrógrado y las dificultades de los últimos meses trajeron muerte, destrucción y desesperación: enemigos de la mente, el espíritu y los terrenos vivos que nos rodean. Pero el Corazón de Escorpión ofrece purificación. Una forma de ascender de las ataduras del miedo y la decadencia. Dejamos atrás las sombras de la noche invernal.
Al emerger el Sol de su viaje al inframundo —el día de Júpiter el Generoso—, elaboré un altar a San Expedito. Un santo de pronta liberación. De movimiento. De caminos renovados. Se hicieron peticiones por un nuevo amanecer. Para que las semillas de la nueva luz solar arraigaran en el paisaje de nuestra esfera.
Se ofrecieron libaciones a los espíritus venusinos, cuyo poder ctónico se nutre de Antares. Ofrendas al Sol: talismanes solares y joviales rodeados de frutos frescos de la naturaleza solar.
No se invocó a ningún espíritu para animar o manifestar; esta no era esa clase de trabajo.
Esta era una ofrenda nativa. Un homenaje a la tierra y al giro natural del ciclo solar. Un gesto de recibir a los espíritus presentes y retribuir. En palabras de Julia Carreras Tort, en *La Tierra de la Cabra*, Julia Carreras Tort escribe:
"Esto también podría explicar por qué la fecha tradicional del *ajunt de bruxes* en los Pirineos solía coincidir
con momentos específicos del año, como los relacionados con los solsticios de invierno y verano, así como con cualquier momento relacionado con el ciclo de la cosecha u otros eventos agrarios.
A cambio de su participación en la perpetuación del ciclo de la vida y la muerte, solían ser apaciguados con ofrendas, para asegurar su retorno, pero también para evitar una respuesta perjudicial".
Y así, me levanté, como lo harían mis antepasados, y honré el ciclo en constante cambio de la vida y la muerte. La danza de los rostros.
Este artefacto de magia cotidiana está vinculado a un espíritu que me ha *exaltado* en mi interminable danza con el destino: *Santo Expedito*.
Mi Primera Ofrenda Oculta
